Sand is a material that children are naturally drawn to and offers children the opportunity to develop physical skills and regulate their emotions as they absorb themselves into sand play.
Pour sand into the sturdy sand wheel using flexible buckets and spades. Children can watch the sand flow causing the wheel to rotate, observing how the speed of the wheel’s movement increases as more sand is poured through, developing a knowledge of cause and effect.
Children will enjoy filling the sand mill, using spades to compress the sand in. Release the bottom of the mill to empty the sand. Introduce outdoor animals and outdoor vehicles to encourage imaginative thinking and storytelling opportunities as children recreate rescue missions!
